He's always holding back whenever he makes physical contact with anyone--not just hitting them, but even touching them. Look up the issues where he loses his powers and has to train to _not_ hit "like a cream puff". Or the other ones where he nearly gets owned by Mongul, Solomon Grundy or Bizarro because _he's_ holding back in the hand-to-hand and they're not. There's a few dozen examples of each.



Point is, if he's that over-controlled with his enemies, he's especially going to pay attention when it comes to his wife.



--Plus, it gets mentioned on and off in DC continuity that Lois Lane isn't as ordinary as she looks. If she _wanted to_ pursue it, Lois herself could have super-powers, actually...but she doesn't. She'd rather be a reporter, a journalist, and make a difference out there in the world _as a normal person_. Granted, DC teases this, some writers mention it, others then disown it from continuity.



Still, in general you can safely assume that Lois Lane isn't your average human being. That she already has some "buffs" going on relative to ordinary people on the physical and intellectual level. So to speak.
