How do I design a golf course?

I love the game of golf and I have thought about becoming an architect when I get older to possibly design courses. What is a good way to start practicing designing courses?How do I design a golf course?Since you are just starting, draw it out on a piece of paper first. After, you can make it more elaborate (possibly 3D or something). Make sure you know a lot about the game, you'll have to know where to put the tee boxes, yardages, which holes will be par 3/4/5, where the rough will start, the slopes of the greens and hole in general, the scenery, where hazards will be placed....there is a lot you must consider.How do I design a golf course?Get that architectural degree asap, thats the most important part...

I would Try and play, or visit as many courses as possible too, in youre search in finding what style courses you gravitate for, and take notes.



Im sure the PGA of America has programs designed for people just like you.How do I design a golf course?If you have a good relationship with a local course and/or a course pro, see if you can get them to put you in contact with an architect. Getting to shadow a working course architect (or even just doing a Q%26amp;A via email) should give you some great insights into the profession.
