How do I improve my golf game?

I heard it is common but maybe there is something to do with it. I just started to play golf and I can hit 9 of 10 golf balls nice and straight on the driving range. On the golf course it is the other way around. I made good contact with the ball maybe once from 10 hits. Is it all in my head? What can I do with that? How do I improve my golf game?Sounds like you are a pretty good athlete, expectation is the mother of problems on the course. Just like at the range pick your target, go through your presot routine and hit, too much thinking about outcome or score creates problems. How do I improve my golf game?
You just need lots of practice and repitition. Spend more time on the course and less on the driving range. How do I improve my golf game?practise makes perfect
make sure your head stays down! Pick out a spot on the ball you want to hit and keep your eye on it all the way through the shot. The biggest mistake beginners make is trying to see where the ball is going instead of keeping your head downHow do I improve my golf game?Slow yourself down. Alot of people tend to have a different swing at the range because they are more relaxed. Just take a deep breath, stay loose and picture a range sign in the middle of the fairway. I used to have this problem, At the range I'd be nice and straight with my driver, then on the course I would swing to hard and hook the ball. A friend of mine pointed out that I was swinging too hard and pulling my head off, therefore making less solid contact, and hooking my drives, so I slowed down, relaxed a bit, and I've been fine ever since. Good luck. How do I improve my golf game?
The old issue of a star and the range and a bum on the course lol It's a matter of building a repeating swing that you can rely on which is a matter of more practice.
Try and relax as much as you can, and remember that your golf game/swing is dependant alot on rhythm.

As a beginner, you'll soon learn that the driving range and golf course are two completely different places. The whole purpose of the driving range is to help you play better golf on the golf course. Practice like you're playing. Try to hit shots one at a time.

It's bad practice to try to hit 9 out of 10 balls well on the driving range because you never do that on the course.

Maybe try to hit one ball well at a time, with one club, with one target.

Then, switch clubs and hit that one shot well, with a new target.

Golf is all about one shot at a time, not 9 out of 10.
1. Keep you head still.

2. Swing in balance.

3. Stare at the ball until it's gone...including putting and chipping.

4. Drag the club away from the ball which will make your shoulders turn. Many people pull the club up.

4. Concentrate on keeping your left arm straight.

5. Accelerate through the ball....STAY IN BALANCE.

Hope it helps. I teach beginners to intermediate players.
Practice, Practice, Practice.
the biggest mistake that well intentioned amateur coaches make is to tell the pupil to keep their head down, this is totally wrong.you should keep your eyes down and your head up to allow your shoulder to turn under your chin- thats the 1st rule.2nd rule-on the driving range mats all is level and simple,on the course al is very rarely simple or level,so you need to be hitting balls off grass,a lot of driving ranges have this facility in the summer so find one.last ,practice in a methodical way, allways have a point to aim at and a point to reach for the practice session.remember this very important rule-practice makes permanent, perfect practice makes perfect. In other words, have some lessons from a qualified instructor and make all your goals small ones.this is the best way to improve.this last bit is for ryan h-you tell her to keep her left arm straight-how do you know she is a right handed golfer??please think before handing out very poor advice to a student.
As you only just started you have to have fun, but learn at the same time. You also would like to know how good you might become. There is a training method I used when the golf course is quiet. At your level use 4 balls off the tee. Go to the best shot (after picking up the other 3) and then play 4 shots from there and so on. On the Green do the same thing. You will quickly see how well you could play if your hit the ball more consistantly. When you improve only use 3 balls. Try this as often as you can when the course isn't busy, and remember to replace all divots and repair pitch marks.

Good Luck!!
If only we could carry the range with us to the course we would all be profesionals.

After I have warmed up and hit a few shots with most clubs I start with the wedge and progress up to a couple of shots with the driver.

I then pretend to play my home course in my head so I only hit 1 shot at a time i.e a 3 Wood followed by an 8 iron would normally be enough to conquer the first hole where I play, this helps recreate the pressure of playing as you only get 1 chance to hit a good shot when playing for real.I add 2 putts to the score and carry on to hole No.2.

It is important to accurately assess each shot and detemine where and how far it goes this makes the next descion for club selection more realistic.

Try this for 5 or 6 imaginery holes and see how you get on, it trains your imagination and discipline if you take each shot as seriously as you would in a real situation and is more fun than just slogging away.

The longest distance in golf is the 6 inches between you ears don't listen to too many amateur coaches and when you feel ready (sooner rather than later) go and see a teaching pro.

Good luck you will get better if you stay positive and enjoy the game

P.S there is a book called The Inner Game of Golf written by a ex Tennis pro who took the game up and it deals with the mental side of all sports, when I read it I went out and broke 90 for the first time too much of a coincidence to not take the mental side seriously
