There is a simple way to figure out the ball that is right for you. Test balls just like the pros do. It's super easy. Go to your local pro shop and buy a sleeve of each ball you are thinking of. 4 sleeves should do it. Then go practice with them around the green. That is where you will notice this biggest difference in the balls. Most golf balls, i say again most golf balls, not all, preform around the same off the tee. Unless you have one of the balls that is hard as a rock and made just for distance. Around the green is where your going to see each ball preform differently. You need to putt, chip and hit a few 50 yard shots on to a green to see how your swing effects each ball. Things to consider though are your swing speed and weather conditions. Most high handicappers don't have an overly fast swing speed so they should be using a low compression or softer ball. In the old days the compression of a ball was printed right on the ball. They don't do that anymore. You have to go by the colour of the number printed on the ball. if the number is black, it's a harder ball best suited for golfers with swing speeds of over 100 mph. A red number is a medium hardness which most amateur men should be using. A blue number would be best for women and seniors (slower swing speeds)
