What the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner?

Been playing golf for a few years, never really seriously. Started out with a $200 set of Ram clubs from Kmart. Thinking of getting more serious and wonder if it's time for a higher end set. Also 6' 4 and wondering how important that + 1 shaft length which means getting a higher end set is. Yet to break 100, close. What the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner? The old addage is "it's the Indian, not the Arrow" is applicable to golf. I've been golfing for a year and a half. I started with a hand me down set of clubs and broke a hundred a few times. I upgraded to some Adams Irons and Cobra Woods/Driver and I really haven't changed too much. I will say if can strike your old clubs well, maybe it's time for an upgrade. They may help you shave a couple of strokes because of their craftsmanship. You are taller than the average golfer, but I think you still can use regular length clubs. What the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner?
$1000 set of clubs would probably be too good for you as they are less forgiving they are more suited to golfers with lower handicaps as they make better contact consisntantly. The clubs do make a difference ie: you will get more distance, less slice etc but talk to your local golf shop to see which clubs suit your swing. What the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner? If you can't make consistent contact with the ball, it does not matter how expensive your golf clubs are. What the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner?
a good golfer can still shoot well with crap clubs

go work on your swing.....your clubs arent the problem

i broke 100 3 years ago at age 13 ... practice goes a long wayWhat the difference between a $200, $500 and $1000 set of golf clubs especially for a beginner?I bought a set of $110 Left handed clubs (Foremost)[I guess “for most golfers”] from Wal-Mart 4 years ago and a $40 driver from Kmart 5 years ago as a beginner (only because my hand-me-down set didn’t have a driver). I also bought a new putter along the way along with a Sand Wedge from Dick’s. I still use my driver and 75% time outdrive my golfing buddy who bought the “Burner”. My best round was a 77 2 years ago and I shot an 85, 92 (rain), and an 84 so far this year. You might get some distance with a new set; maybe and extra club or two. Meaning if you hit your 9 iron from 150yds you now hit your PW. My golfing buddy has an $800 set and gained 1 club. My brother-in-law is 6’4” as well, and plays with his Wal-Mart set. He’s been golfing since last summer and has broken 100 twice. He’ll get better just like you will. If you want to be a decent golfer and lord knows I’m not the best…and never will claim to be, but you can’t get better unless you play the game…I like to go every weekend. I know this for a fact though; I can get to the green in regulation and still 3 putt. You’ll notice most of your stokes come from within 25 yds of the green. I suggest practicing your short game and watch your score drop. I hope this helps a little. And I guess if you can swing the $1000 for a set…go ahead.
