I currently have a Mark 3 Golf GTI but am looking to buy a Mark 4 TDI, as this would be far cheaper to run in terms of MPG (I'm not a boy racer so this is more important to me than speed!). But after looking around, there are more GT TDI's on the market in my area than bog standard TDIs.
I realise the GT TDI's will be quicker than the normal TDI's (my dad had a TDI so I know they are nippy enough) but would there be a big difference between them in terms of fuel economy? What is the fuel economy like in a Golf GT TDI compared to a normal Golf TDI?I don't think there would be a significant difference in fuel economy, but other costs may vary more, such as insurance group and cost of tyres.
I would probably stick to the standard TDi. As they are in less demand, prices should be somewhat cheaper that the GT. Of course, if you want more grunt, you could always "chip" the turbocharged engine. What is the fuel economy like in a Golf GT TDI compared to a normal Golf TDI?I think you will find it is purely down to spec, ie a GT Will have more toys.Having said that I would have thought most GTs would have a 130bhp or possibly 150bhp engine as apposed to a 100/110bhp engine for the lower spec car, even so the bigger engine wont be far behind on MPG.
