Why is golf the activity of choice for selling your company ?

I hate golf ! I certainly can't play golf and have no desire to. Why and what are my alternatives ?Why is golf the activity of choice for selling your company ?One of the reasons golf is the activity of choice, is that it provides you an opportunity to get your prospect alone with no distractions for 3-4 hours, golf ettiquette dictates that no cell phones, pagers etc be answered which gives you a perfect chance to engage your client and allows you to pace the sales pitch in a natural manner. Despite what some other people who say it is a sport for fat old men may say, it is a natural choice for getting repoir started, learning about and connecting with you clients, and getting their undivided attention for most of a day. Just try doing that on a sales call to an office setting. Some other good ideas, if you are not a golfer are: day time ball games, not quite as distraction free as golf but allows you to become friends with your prospect and get them out of their office on business hours (which is always appreciated), try chartering a fishing boat if you are in the right location, take them to a trade show on your dime, white water rafting, sailing, if you have many prospective clients set up a themed excursion/ demonstration, ex: if you sell restaurant appliances have all of your clients come to your show room and get a highly respected chef to cook the meal while teaching and sharing ideas with your clients.

EVERYBODY TAKES PEOPLE TO LUNCH OR DINNER and while it is a good meet n' greet or relationship maintainer, it will never set you apart from your competetion. To be remembered as the best you must be set yourself apart from your competitors. Doesn't have to be a golf outing, it needs to be anything that helps you become a friend and consultant for your prospects, it's hard to do that when you both have your mouth full and need to be back at the office by 1:30Why is golf the activity of choice for selling your company ?a very good lunch in a out of town restaurantWhy is golf the activity of choice for selling your company ?because fat old men can say they play a sport.
