What's the difference between Golf and GTI?

I have a 2002 1.8T and I don't know whether to call it a Golf or a GTI. I Think on the the left-rear it says GTI and the right rear says 1.8T, BUT WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOLF AND GTI?!What's the difference between Golf and GTI?If you don't don't know a difference between a GTI and a Golf, you shouldn't be allowed to own a GTI. Kudos on being familiar with your vehicle chief. What's the difference between Golf and GTI?When the car has GTI emblazoned on it, you call it a GTI.

Confusion may arise for you because the GTI is based on the Golf sedan. The GTI designation morphs the family Golf into a sports sedan.

Here are just some differences between them : GTI has a leather steering wheel and shift knob. They come with hi-performance , body hugging seats, sometimes leather . Their engines are usually much higher Horsepower and have a close-ratio gearbox too. The GTI features firmer suspension for improved road handling. The brakes are larger diameter too. Tires and special wheels for increased traction and cornering. Special interiors and paint options round out the GTI package.

As you can see, the GTI is the premier car. Nothing wrong with the Golf, it is a trusty family car.

Of course, they command a premium price too. My '06 GTI cost about $5,000 more than a Golf.

Well worth the extra price!!!

Another way to express the difference between them ; consider the plain Mustang. Then add GT to the Mustang name. Totally different cars; the GT is the performer....What's the difference between Golf and GTI?in australia the only 1.8t in the mk4 came as a GTi and nothing else but i cant speak for other parts of the world !
