Can you touch an opponents clubs in golf?

Can u touch an opponents clubs or golf bag to see what he/she has hit on a hole during a round of golf? Also what are the penalties in match play stroke play and 4 ball play? And is there a rule or decision on this matter? Can you touch an opponents clubs in golf? You can not ask your opponent what club they used....advice (USGA Rule 8-1), but you can peek into their bag to see what club is missing or snatch a look while in play. Touch their clubs? The USGA Rules of golf do not go into this detail....Penalty for breach of rule: Loss of hole match play, 2 strokes, stroke play. The rules in this instance are verbal....What do you think? Where should I aim? What club did you use? What club should I use? Did you play it longer? How did the wind affect it?

Should I pitch out or go for it? You can ask your caddy or your partner if playing in a team tournament. Can you touch an opponents clubs in golf?
This is covered under Rule 8-1 Advice

Be careful before rummaging in another players bag to see what club he used.

It is against the rules to gain information, by a physical act, about what club another player has used.

See these Decisions:

8-1/10 Looking into Another Player's Bag to Determine Club Used

Q. A looks into B's bag to determine which club B used for his last stroke. Is this the equivalent of asking for advice?

A. No. Information obtained by observation is not advice. But see also Decision 8-1/11.

8-1/11 Removing Towel Covering Another Player's Clubs to Determine Club Used

Q. Decision 8-1/10 states that it is not a breach of Rule 8-1 for A to look into B's golf bag to determine which club B used for his last stroke. Suppose a towel was covering B's clubs and A removed the towel in order to determine which club B had used, would that be a breach of Rule 8-1?

A. Yes. A player is prohibited from obtaining such information through a physical act.

Clearly Decision 8-1/11 prohibits you from touching the equipment of another player to determne what club they have used to play a shot. A physical act would include touching another players clubs.

The penalty for this act is loss of hole in matchplay, 2 penalty strokes in strokeplay. Can you touch an opponents clubs in golf?no, there is no penalty for touching an opponents clubs or golf bagCan you touch an opponents clubs in golf?
