Which iron set should I purchase for the upcoming golf season?

Ive had the same golf set for 3 years. It is an inexpensive set and the layer on the face has worn down. I am a 10 handicap and I am thinking about buying a set for around 500-600. Which iron set would be best for me? Should I get forged irons?Which iron set should I purchase for the upcoming golf season?you can have a try about TaylorMade TP Forged IronsWhich iron set should I purchase for the upcoming golf season?
If you want to go a little bit lower for a great set of clubs I would recommend a set of gradule irons that are forged. I'm pretty sure most club makers have a set. It is where the 3-6 are more of a cavity back for more forgiveness and the 7-PW are blades for more control. I never played anything but blades but I bought a set of Hogan FTX irons and loved them but they are about 5 or 6 years old. I then went to the Nike Pro Combos about 3 years ago and still hit them to this day. My friend owns a golf store so I get to test out the latest and greatest. There are some irons that I really like but can't get away from my Pro Combos. Most new irons will run about the same price tag between 800-1000 for forged and 600-800 for cast with Callaway as the exception with a normal tag of over a 1000. I highly recommend a gently used set that will normally run you 300-500. The best way to tell is to go to your local golf store and most of them have an indoor hitting range. It is best to buy the bigger name brands but you have to make sure they feel good to you. A couple others I like are the Cleveland Pearls, Nike CCI, any Mizuno forged blade, any pre-Callaway Hogan irons.Which iron set should I purchase for the upcoming golf season?First thing you'll want to think about is this: Do I want a NEW set or a "New to me" set of irons.

Secondly, if you do go with the forged irons, they tend to cost more than the cast made irons.

With your budget you should be able to get some nice used-forged irons.

Next thing you'll want to think about is "What style of irons do I want to game?" Blade irons have a very small head and typically a smaller sweet spot, BUT blade irons when hit right are easier to work the ball (i.e: draw or fade)

Cavity back irons are just a smidgen harder to work the ball, BUT cavitiy back irons are more forgiving!

So you actually have quite a few options for cavity backs:

Cleveland Golf have some nice cavity backs, as do Callaway, Titleis, and Ping.

Blade Irons: Mizuno, Titleist, KZG (brand that everyone is waking up to)

Check eBay for used stuff etc. Beware of new irons sets (occasionally you'll run into "knock off" stuff that pretends to be the real deal. Make sure the seller is reputable)

OR you could just support your local golf pro and buy new from them. :)

This question seems like an open inquiry based on opinion. We usually get clubs based on what aspect of golf we want to improve. That being said, find out which club will improve your game the best. Are you a dead pull hitter, fader, short? I agree with the first poster that you don't necessarily need brand new clubs, but the old addage is: it's the Indian, not the arrow.Which iron set should I purchase for the upcoming golf season?Callaway 2009 Big Bertha Irons
