How do you calculate your handy cap for golf?

I was wondering what my handi cap would be for a regular 72 par golf courseHow do you calculate your handy cap for golf?Yahoo has a site where you can enter your scores and get an idea of your handicap. It is not an official handicap but it would give you and idea. Be sure to check the slope and rating on the score card against any that are already populated on the site as I have found 2 in my area don't agree. You need about 10 scores to get started.

To find your handicap you need to use some annoying formula and play at least 20 rounds of golf oN the course. Then take the ten best rounds then ......



Ask the proshop and find out what the slope of the course is. Or something like that. And just google how to find out handicap, and get a calculator pencil and paper.

Handicap has absolutely nothing to do with par.



It's based on course rating and slope rating. These numbers will be printed on the score card.



The basic formula is to take the difference between your score and the course rating. Multiply by 113 and divide by the slope rating for your course. Take the average of lowest 10 values for your last 20 rounds, and take 96% of that number.



As the other answerer said, if you just have casual interest, then sign up on Yahoo.



If you're going to play tournaments, then you need to sign up at a course to get an official handicap.
